DAY 17 ~ August 29th

Students took a timed quiz over the Perfect Squares and Cubes. Then they completed their quiz over classifying real numbers, estimating and approximating non-perfect squares.

After the quiz, we went over the Unit 1 Test and began the test correction process using a writing strategy to receive partial credit. The test correction process is an option that I offer the students in lieu of retaking the test. Students need to learn the correct process in solving the objectives. The Test corrections will be due next week.

DAY 16 ~ August 28th

When students came in we reviewed over some perfect squares with our flashcards.

Students participated in a review game for their quiz tomorrow. The objectives covered on tomorrow's quiz: classifying real numbers, estimating irrational numbers, perfect squares, and perfect cubes.

Students were given a TOTD to help review for quiz.

DAY 15 ~ August 27th

We took a few minutes to review over the Square & Square Roots video AND the Cube & Cube Roots video.
Students used the videos to help them create their Number Line Activity. Students were able to use those numbers to help them estimate irrational numbers. Then we took estimating irrational numbers to the next level and applied that objective to approximating irrational numbers to the tenths place value.

Students were sent home to complete a set of 32 flashcards for Perfect Squares/Cubes, and had 3 problems to approximate.

DAY 14 ~ August 26th

We discussed The Real Number System, and how they will be implementing specific types of numbers in other units.
Then we moved to our Real Number Activity to help students with classifying numbers, ordering and comparing numbers.
I sent students home to watch 2 videos (5 minutes each) and to complete those video notes in their Packets. When they come to class tomorrow, pages 1 - 6 in their packets should be complete INCLUDING the practice problems.

DAY 13 ~ August 25th

MATH LAB day!! Students will be working on their individualized SuccessMaker program. Once students work through SuccessMaker, they will log into USA TestPrep and work on their "Progress Report". This progress report shows their % on each objectives mastery level.

DAY 12 ~ August 22nd

Unit 1 Test, here we come!! Students are ready to take today's test. They will realize that if you study and work hard, they will be successful!!

DAY 11 ~ August 21st

Students continued to practice over the following objectives for their Unit 1 test tomorrow: Angle Pair Relationships, Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal, Transformations - Translations, Reflections, Rotations, and Dilations. Good Luck tomorrow!!!

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

DAY 10 ~ August 20th

Students have been working hard practicing and reviewing for this Unit 1 Test on Friday. Today, we continued to practice on Angle Pair Relations and Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal. There was no video to watch, however students were assigned problems to practice over the objectives mentioned above.

DAY 9 ~ August 19th

We discussed Angle Pair Relationships and Parallel Lines cut by a transversal. Students were assigned various problems for homework (pink sheet), along with the video: Triangle Sum & Exterior Angle Theorem.

DAY 8 ~ August 18th

Students started their weekly visits to the Math Lab today. During Monday sessions, students work at their own individualized pace through a research based program known as SuccessMaker. This program identifies each student's strengths as well as their own weaknesses.

After students finish their IPM (Progress Monitoring) stage, then the program places students at their own level, and will work through the math skills that they are struggling with. After their session of SuccessMaker, students will then log into their USA TestPrep (online) and work through their own progress report to show mastery on each objective.

DAY 7 ~ August 15th

Today, students took their first quiz over transformations.
This weekend, students will need to watch the video - Angle Pair Relations and complete the packets notes that correspond to the video. This video is a review from their 7th grade curriculum.

DAY 6 ~ August 14th

Students reviewed over transformations - translations, reflections, rotations, and dilations. We discussed what to expect on their quiz tomorrow, and students were assigned practice problems to help prepare them for the assessment.

DAY 5 ~ August 13th

We discussed rotations and practiced using rotations, reflections, and translations in their activity.

Activity - Transformations

Key - Activity

For homework, students are to watch the Dilation video, and complete the notes in the SSS packet that corresponds to the video.

Video: Dilations

DAY 4 ~ August 12th

We reviewed over how translations affect objects, and began looking at reflections. Our main focus today was reflecting over the x-axis and the y-axis, then we will add other lines.

Each class was given a WS: Translations & Reflections (blue)
Students had class time to work on some of the problems, and then were assigned certain problems to finish for HW.

DAY 3 ~ August 11th

Students received their Unit 1 SSS Packet. I explained my expectations when they are watching the videos and completing their notes for each video.

In class, we watched half of their first video and filled in their notes. After the video, students practiced applying translations on pages 2 - 3 of their packets #1 - 5.

Students were sent home to finish watching the rest of the video and to complete the notes only.

Video: Translations, Reflections, and Rotations

DAY 2 ~ August 8th

Students created their "Math Person" and answering questions based on their experiences. We also discussed their daily access to the internet.
